Toni and I, along with our good friends, Gina and Robert, had a great evening at an intimate small venue concert with some of Nashville's upcoming songwriter/performers. Cory Batten was there, who wrote the current #1 song on the country charts, Blake Shelton "She Wouldn't Be Gone", and the #1 CMT video of that same song (see below). He also sang a song he wrote for Julie Roberts, "If You Had Called Yesterday". A few years back, he had another #1 song on the bluegrass charts, "Is the Grass any Bluer?".
Husband and wife team David and Taryn Brainard peformed. David has written songs for Brooks & Dunn and others. Interestingly, Taryn was the lead singer for the Air Force band "Night Wings" when she met her husband.
Craig Monday was the fourth in the line-up with a great song he wrote "Heaven is a Small Town"... wow! He's also written songs for Kenny Chesney, Vince Gill, Mark Wills, Amy Grant, and Diamond Rio.
The concert was able to raise $9,000 for the Old River Optimist Club and it's support of children charities.
